The follow-up to May’s Hot Puds EP, Hot Puds 2 once again channels the fuzzy heartbreak of Weezer, the Dudes Rock ethos of Guided by Voices, and the tightly-woven pop of The Cars. The result: 5 tracks in 7 minutes.

Starting with the 12-second ‘i am a stupid worm and i am trash’, Hot Puds 2 carries the flame for hook-laden power pop so dumb it might even be smart. Deeply unimportant subjects such as seasonal allergies (‘Hayfever’) and deathly fear of illegal streaming (‘Pirate Bay’), are lovingly swaddled in overcharged riffs and ill-advised dual guitar leads.

There’s also the band’s first epic in the form of the 2-whole-minute long ‘Toaster’. ‘Wanted You So Bad’ closes out the set in a sugary doo-rock attempt to resolve the Virgin-Chad dialectic.
